This 5 day tour from Kampala visits the best two best National Parks for chimpanzee tracking in Uganda. Travel to the famed Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s oldest national park, the most scenic as well as one of the best for game viewing. After the two night stop at the breathtaking Murchison Falls Park, continue your adventure to Kibale National Park, a truly unrivaled natural tropical rain forest for chimpanzee tracking. Enjoy chimpanzee tracking, a visit to the Bigodi Sanctuary, where you’ll learn about the different flora and fauna in the forest.
After breakfast, leave Kampala for Murchison Falls National Park located in the north western part of Uganda. The scenic drive takes you along the Kampala – Gulu highway. Journey past the famous Luweero triangle which was once a notorious battle ground in the 1980s. Have lunch at the Masindi Hotel. Continue to the Murchison falls national park and on arrival hike to the top of the falls.
After breakfast take a game drive on the northern banks of the Nile in Murchison Falls National park. During the drive, you will see different wild animals. Usual sightings along the northern banks include buffaloes, kobs, giraffes, Jackson’s Hartebeests, waterbucks, baboons, lions and oribis. After lunch enjoy a launch cruise to the base of the falls. The boatride is rewrding with sightings of many wild animals that include hundreds of hippos, Nile crocodiles and other wildlife that come to the river to drink. Birds are in plenty and include: the African Jacana, piac piac, rock pranticole, shoe bill and many more. Dinner and overnight at Red Chilli camp/Sambiya River Lodge/ Chobe Safari lodge
After breakfast leave Murchison falls national park for Kibale Forest national Park. Be prepared for a long drive through the Albertine Rift as you descend down to Fortportal, Western Uganda. Have lunch in Fort portal, another interesting town in Uganda, the seat of the Toro Kingdom, one of the few surviving monarchies of the past Ugandan kingdoms. Have dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge/ Chimp’s Nest/ chimpanzee Guest house.
Early in the morning, report to the park headquarters; get briefed about chimpanzee tracking, an activity of the day. Led by a ranger guide, trek into the forest on foot and start your hunt for the wild chimpanzees, thousands of which live in this tropical rain forest. If you are early enough you will witness the chimpanzees denesting. There are many other diurnal primates that can be seen during the hike including grey cheeked mangabey and red tailed monkey. After lunch have an optional walk in the Bigodi swamp, where you will see different trees and birds, learn about conservation and visit the local communities. Dinner and overnight at Primate lodge/Chimp’s Nest/ chimpanzee Guest house
After breakfast, take a tour around Fortportal. Tour the Toro Royal Palace, Karambi Tombs, the Crater Lake Region and then return to Kampala having a stopover enroute for lunch. Our guide will drop you at a hotel of your choice.
