A 2 Day Mini Safari to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area home to incredible flora and fauna. This is the best weekend escape. Murchison Falls National Park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment tumbles into vast, palm-dotted savanna. The park is home to 76 species of mammals and 451 birds including elephants, giraffes and buffaloes, hippos, Nile lions, crocodiles and aquatic birds. One of the highlights of the trip is a hike to the Top of the Falls created by the Victoria Nile, at a point where it plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park
Early in the Morning start off for Murchison Falls National park. The 3-4 hours journey takes you through the Luwero Triangle, the notorious 1980s war zone. Have lunch on arrival at the park and then board the 14:00 ferry. During the “Ferry Crossing” you may encounter some wildlife such as the hippos, Nile crocodile, elephants playing in the water, water bucks, and buffalo. If you are lucky you may even see giraffes, leopard, lion, bushbuck and black and white colobus monkeys. Several water birds permanent residents to the shores can be seen that include the rare shoe bill, African fish eagle, Goliath heron, African jacana, African skimmer, pied and malachite kingfishers, piacpiac, yellow backed weaver, black-headed gonolek and rock pranticole. Day 2: Game Drives, Top of the Falls & Return Trip to Kampala
Early in the morning, wake up with a game drive experience through the park. The drive on the northern banks of the Nile, is the best adventure to catch up with the early risers that include lions, buffaloes taking an early drink at the gorge, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, water bucks, baboons, oribis and elephants. Return to the lodge and then take a hike to the top of the falls best place for sight seeing and photography! You can even choose to have an early lunch at the picnic site at the top of the falls. Return to Kampala arriving late evening.
