Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala – Fortportal
Depart for Fort Portal via Mubende with stopover at Nakayima Shrine, a splendid tree worshipped by local people and believed to host spirits of ancient king. Picnic lunch en-route at Kibale, arriving late afternoon. Relax at the lodge or explore nearby lake. Dinner and overnight in local homes or lodge.
Day 2: Tour Toro Cultural Sites
Visit and enjoy the Omukama (King) of Toro’s palace,locally worshiped hot springs and see ancient landform features and caves in Fort Portal. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Tour Queen Elizabeth National Park
Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing through Rwenzori ‘Mountains of the Moon’. Take boat cruise on Kazinga Channel and visit Tropical Bee Care Centre.Dinner and overnight at Jacana Friendly Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge
Visit Kyambura Gorge to track chimpanzees, man’s closest relative. Leave for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Buhoma farmlands. Dinner and overnight at local homes/tented camps.
Day 5: Gorilla Tracking
Your tour guide will transfer you to the park for gorilla tracking early in the morning. Get briefed about the trek within the forest. Start your hike into the forest looking for the mountain gorillas. In the afternoon enjoy Buhoma Village Tourist Walk organized by the local community. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Bwindi Lodge / Buhoma Homestead.
Day 6: Visit the Virungas
Depart for Kisoro early morning stopping at Kanaba Gap to view spectacular Virunga Volcanoes and stunning terraced hills. Visit natural, beautiful Lake Mutanda surrounded by the volcanoes. Walk on the shore or continue directly to Mgahinga. Lunch en-route, dinner and overnight at Mt. Mgahinga Rest House/ Mgahinga Safari Lodge.
Day 7: Visit the Batwa Pygmies
Visit the local Batwa pygmies to experience their culture. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the lodge
Day 8: Travel to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park via Kabale. Evening game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at Mantana Mburo Camp
Day 9: Lake Mburo NP – Kampala
Early morning game drive. Return to Kampala via Masaka with stopovers to view royal drum makers, Equator point for photography and roadside shopping of local produces with lunch en-route. Visit Katereke Royal Prison and King Wamala’s Tombs. Drive to Kampala arriving in afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Day 10 & 11: Kampala Tour
Take City tour of Kampala, the green city sited on 21 hills. Visit the Parliament, Museum, religious centres like Namugongo Martyrs Shrine. Trail ancient Kabaka (kings) palace and Kasubi Royal Tombs, Naggalabi Coronation Site. Visit Bahai Temple, local markets to buy crafts, try the local cuisines. Dinner and overnight in the lodge.
Day 12: Jinja Tour
Depart for Jinja via Mukono with detour at Ssezibwa Falls for birding. Proceed to Mabira Forest then to Owen Falls Dam, Uganda’s largest dam. Visit the Source of Nile and Bujagali Falls. Return to Kampala after lunch. Visit Kampala Theatre to enjoy local play and dance. Dinner and catch your flight back home.
