Located in Western Uganda, the 760 sq kms forest is one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of tropical forests in Uganda. Kibale Forest is a famous park and is known to host the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa. Altogether the park is home to about thirteen species. These include chimpanzees, red colobus and the rare I’Hoest’s monkeys, black-and-white colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboon, bush baby and potto etc. This trip’s main highlight is tracking the chimpanzees within the forest.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Kibale Forest National Park via Mubende – Fortportal Route. Stopover at the Nakayima Tree. Lunch in Fortportal. Explore Crater Valley Region.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale forest National Park. Afternoon Bigodi Nature Walk. OR go for chimpanzee habituation in the forest.
Day 3: Explore the Amabeere. Return to Kampala.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala – Fortportal
Early morning, our tour guide will pick you from your hotel for a trip to Kibale Forest National Park. Have a stopover at Mubende and visit the Nakayima Tree, a four hundred year old historical tree, one of the few remains of the Bachwezi dynasty. Continue with your journey to Fortportal making a few other stops at different fascinating places along the way. Take lunch in Fortportal and visit take a visit to the Crater Lakes Region or the Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru cultural site. Later connect to Kibale Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at Chimp Nest Budget, Kibale Forest Lodge (Any Equivalent).

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
After breakfast, report to the park headquarters and get briefed about chimpanzee tracking. Embark on a morning walk through Kibale forest in search of chimps and other primates. During the trek, you will be guided by experienced and knowledgeable tour guides who will give you a lot of insight into the lives of primates, as well as flora and fauna found within the forest. After lunch, take an initiative walk to Bigodi wetland for birds and other primates living around this swampy area. (You can opt for a full day chimpanzee habituation experience within the forest). Dinner and Overnight at Chimp Nest Budget, Kibale Forest Lodge.

Day 3: Return Trip to Kampala
After breakfast head towards Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru. At this site you will see the growing stalactites and stalagmites that are locally refered to as “breasts” of the past Chwezi dynasty. Take a nature walk around the trees and take some breathtaking pictures before connecting to Fortportal. Embark on your return trip to Kampala arriving in the late evening.
